Animal Reiki FAQ

“Hi Shiri, I just wanted you to know that we noticed a remarkable improvement in Kenzie's energy this evening. He has been very puppyish and lively! thanks to your healing. We love you…” Linda, Toronto
What is Animal Reiki?
(See video of Felini, the farm cat with an injured paw who asked me for Reiki)
Animals live in the energy world. They are first to know about an impending natural disaster, changes in their "owner's" mood, and can even detect cancer! This makes animals very sensitive to this gentle, non invasive relaxation and healing technique called Reiki.
What exactly is Reiki?
Reiki ("Rey-Ki") translates as "Universal Life Force" where the body's own natural state of health is promoted through a series of gentle hand positions to help clear away blockages in the energy field and physical body. These blockages are often caused by stress, injury, fear, trauma, or unresolved grief, which if left untreated might express themselves as disease, illness, depression, and an overall feeling of fatigue or lack of vitality (in people and/or animals!).
What can Reiki help with (for people and/or animals)?
-Pre and post surgery recovery
-Physical dis-ease: e.g. Cancer, diabetes, migraine headaches, etc'
-Relief from Anxiety, Depression, Aggression, Fears
-Adjustment to transitions, travel, and changes
-Trauma and abuse recovery (*combined with short term counselling*)
-Grief healing (including the loss of a pet)
-Very helpful during the process of dying
-Helps deepen the Human-Animal Bond
-Promotes an overall state of natural calm and well being
-Releases anger or resentment, fears, worry, and tension
-Pregnancy: from planning for conception to giving birth!

How does Animal Reiki 'work'?
Since Reiki is non-invasive and is mostly done at the pet’s home or farm, where it is most comfortable for them. Your pet will decide if they want Reiki, how much of it, and how long a session is needed based on what is going on in their emotional, psychological, and physical body. Your pet will "communicate" when they had enough and is always respected for their wishes.
Distance Reiki session normally involves setting up a special time to send healing to your pet. Reiki will be intended for the highest good of yourself and your pet while session is in progress. A Distance session usually lasts for about 20 to 30 minutes. Your pet will be receiving the flow of energy from my hands where ever you are in the world!
Can Reiki help Agressive or Anxious pets?
Yes! Reiki is Energy healing, and thus even the timid of pets tend to enjoy the session (even if from their hiding spot under the bed).
Reiki has done wonders for pets (and people) who are anxious, fearful, or agressive!
Can Reiki do Harm?
Reiki can never do harm and is always used for the highest good of the patient receiving it. It always knows what the patient needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. Because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, but rather serves as a “vehicle” for the energy flow, the practitioner is not in danger of taking on the ‘karma’ of the patient.
Can I stay in the room during hands-on visits?
Yes! You are an important being for your pet and it is best that you are in the room with us during treatment. I will likely remain quiet during the session, to allow for the energy to guide me for the highest possible healing required. Following the session, I will share with you of any recommendations, insights, or suggestions that I receive while treating your pet, if you wish to know.
How many sessions are needed for my pet?
Normally after a series of Three to Five consecutive sessions you will begin to see improvement, however we will discuss a plan that will suit your and your pet’s needs upon each visit. I do my best to tailor treatment plans according to needs and what is best for your furry friend.
Do you also treat Horses or Farm Animals?
Yes, farm visits are most welcome by appointment. Horses, being pray animals, are especially sensitive to the emotional vibration of those around them and thus to the energy field of those who work with them. The Horses I worked with would normally sense the energy offerd to them from a mile away and often would come running to participate!
What if I wanted to learn Reiki myself? Where can I take training courses?
The more animal lovers and those who work with animals learn the path of Reiki healing, the better! Reiki and Animal Reiki courses are offered on an on-going basis in British Columbia and in Ontario. Please visit Courses & Workshops for more information on upcoming courses.
Reiki treatments are never intended as an alternative to veterinary care, but rather as a complementary method of healing.
